Cool Video

The first of the new noseriders gets its first layer of glass.  Each noserider will have a huge custom balsa or paulownia stringer and only carry old school pigment work.  It will be topped or bottomed off with an Austin custom pivot fin with special color bead.  We still don’t have a name for her but suggested names have been things like the 51 caliber, the engineer, the conductor, heavy creme, and others.  We want something that matches the old school.  If you have any suggestions leave it in a comment.

Yet to be named noserider (fin glue up)

I snapped a couple of pics of Austin’s new noserider.  He roughed it out on Friday and started the glue up for the glassed on fin.  The stringer is actually 2 1/4 wide paulownia and the fin will match the stringer.  The fin will be all paulownia with no other wood mixed in.  Austin said that he wanted it clean and simple.  I will follow up with a picture of the fin glue up and the fin template he will use before he makes his modifications.

Yet to be Named Noserider (update)

  Squirreled away in the corner of Austin’s shaping room covered with 2 inches of foam dust Austin has hid his newest creation until now.  He has been designing it for almost 4 months now.  The only thing that he has told me is that it is based on the older Hansen 50/50s.  It will be a noserider of course and it will have the pivot fin like the original board but with a little bit more modern touch.  He didn’t tell me if the fin was going to be glass on or a box fin but it sounds interesting.  The one blank is 85 percent shaped.  The only thing I noticed right now is that it has either has a 1 1/2 or 2 paulownia stringer and the rails look 50/50 throughout but who knows what it will look like when he’s finished.  Stay tuned for updates….

Yet to be Named New Noserider

We are building this item for a customer but you will never guess what it’s for!  The first correct guess gets an Austin t-shirt and stickers.

hint – It has no fins and is glass with 3 layers top and bottom with 8 oz volan cloth.  It is made from 1 1/2 blanks glued up together to get the width.  Any guesses?
