Continued from Hobie Restoration Part 1.
We took a skill saw and cut through the top and bottom fiberglass to free up the middle stringers. Next we used the skill saw to cut loose the 1/4 redwood stringer from what was left of the 2 inch balsa stringer. We took extra time to true up the foam edge on the two blank halves and then cleaned up each side of the redwood stringers. We didn’t have a 2 inch piece of balsa that was 10 feet long so we had to splice a few 4 foot pieces to make it work. In the past we have seen this done on original 60′s boards so we didn’t worry about the splices. When the balsa pieces had set up we used a piece of the redwood to get a rough outline and cut out the balsa to the shape of the original redwood stringers. Next we wood have to start gluing it all back together.
